Blackberry Cobbler Maguire

INGREDIENTS:

1/4 c Soft butter or margarine
1/2 c Sugar
1 c Unsifted regular all-purpose
-flour
2 ts Baking powder
1/8 ts Salt
1/2 c Milk
1 cn (1-lb) fruit, cut in small
-pieces, or berries or
-fresh cooked fruit to
-equal 1 lb.
Sugar to taste (for topping)
Cream butter and sugar until smooth and well blended. Sift the flour with baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture a little at a time alternately with the milk, beating just until the thick batter is smooth. Spread the batter evenly in a greased 9-inch square baking pan (it will rise to the top while baking).

Pour berries or fruit and their liquid over batter. Sprinkle with sugar to taste. Bake in 350 deg. oven for about 1 hour or until crust is golden brown.

I live in wild blackberry country (Hi, Dot) so that's what we use. We also put a little cinnamon in the sugar. You just spread the berries over the top of the batter and the batter rises up around it and the berries sink. We also triple the recipe (teenage boys). Oh -
I don't sift either -
just stir well.
